THE PERIL OF ABUSING INFLUENCE

Bride of Christ Devotional, 21st September, 2023

Numbers 16:1-2 – Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men: And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: [KJV]
______________

INFLUENCE is the power or ability to persons or events especially power
based prestige. And leadership is all about influence. As good as the influence of leadership can be to bring progress, productivity, and prestige to a people, however its potency can be abused. The leaders together with 250 princes gathered together against Moses. The elders and princes were leaders and men of renown; influential people who abused their power by stirring rebellion.

Leadership is powerful but it can be abused. These leaders instead of complementing the efforts of Moses, the God ordained leader, stirred up rebellion. Rebellion is always initiated by influential people in a group, community, or country. Check coup plots, assassinations and other levels of instability in our communities; they are stirred by men of influence. They might not be in front but they are into it. When you abuse your influence others will suffer for it. It will cost them there peace, progress, prosperity and sometimes even their lives. The wives and children of these influential princes and all who joined them lost their lives.

Use your influence for a good and godly course. The purpose that influence has been given to anyone that leads is to accomplish God’s plan and purpose amongst a people or territory. It is wise that everytime we should use our wisdom and influence to accomplish God’s plan and purpose and not to start rebellion.

PRAYER: O LORD today forgive me for abusing my influence. Help me to use my leadership to accomplish your will in Jesus name.
