Bride of Christ Devotional, 25th October, 2023
1 Kings 17:23-24…….And Elijah said, “See, your son lives.” And the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.” [NKJV]

ELIJAH THE TISHBITE met with a widow in Zarephath by divine instruction. The Lord directed him to her when the brook dried up. By faith and obedience to God’s counsel through the man of God, the widow was sustained and there was abundance of food throughout the period of famine. This widow’s son fell ill and died and she brought her to the man of God. When Elijah prayed for the child he came back to life and he handed him over to his mother. Then the woman confessed that now she is truly convinced that Elijah is a man of God and that the truth of God’s word was on his mouth. The manifestation of the power of God brought about this conviction and confession from this widow.
The power of God through the Holy Ghost is an effective tool for witnessing. Elijah had been a while with them and the small food that she was waiting for to finish and die sustained them until the famine ended. That did not catch her attention. It was the miraculous manifestation that brought her conviction out. If we are going to be successful in our propagation of the gospel we need genuine power as Jesus promised (Acts 1:8). If we are going to be effective witnesses and heralds of the gospel of Christ the power of the Holy Spirit is indispensable. We must call on the Lord Jesus to be endued from on high.
Those we witness to are in need of the manifestation of the touch of God. We can only give them that when we become custodians of the power of God. We must ask tarry and travail until we receive it from God. With it the lives of men will be saved, healed and delivered from the oppression of the wicked one. The raising of the dead child authenticated Elijah’s ministry to the widow and her confession revealed it.
PRAYER: O LORD empower me with your Spirit so that I can be an effective witness for you in Jesus name.
