Deuteronomy 2:24 Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. (KJV)

CONTENTION is the the meeting of effort with effort. It means to strive against opposition. The engagement can be physical or spiritual. Our text was God’s engagement with Moses as they about to get into the Promised land. He said to them rise up, I have given the land already to you. Now if the land has been given why should they contend with the enemy? The word of God to them that the land has been given is an assurance of victory. It means no matter what the nations that God mentioned does they will be defeated. But they must note that the enemy will not only look at them take the land. They will fight. So contending with them is indispensable.

Believers must know that there are several things that have been secured for us in Christ. If one is going to participate in and have an experiential contact with them you must engage them. That’s is why to contend with the enemy is a command to everyone inorder for them to have an experience of what the victory of Christ has already secured for us in Christ.

Consequently, whatever your condition is, there is some level of responsibility that the believer has so that what he desires according to God’s will can be secured. There are times faith, prayer, declaring scriptures can be potent weapons that we can use to secure victory. Remember the enemy will not just sit down and watch you overcome and make progress and because of this you must rise up today and contend with him. Victory is assured us in Christ Jesus.

*PRAYER:* O LORD as I contend with the enemy of my destiny, may I secure total victory in experience in Jesus name.
