Joshua 1:13, 15 …………The LORD your God gave you rest and gave you this land. Until the Lord has given rest to your brothers, as he has given to you, and they have also possessed the land which the Lord your God gives them; then you will return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan, towards the rising of the sun. [KJV]
_______________
JOSHUA, son of Nun, has taken on the task of leading Israel to the promised land. The tribe Reuben, Gad and half of the tribe of Manasseh already had a country on the other side of the Jordan and entered into their inheritance. They were shepherds and saw a land that would support them well, and Moses gave them. There remained nine and a half tribes who had not received their own. So our text outlines how Joshua was encouraging them to make sure that they support their brothers to enter into their inheritance also. This was to ensure that they have a corporate victory. That everyone should assist the others to get their alloted inheritance.
The fellowship of the Christian community is like this also where everyone of the brethren is catered for until they become what God wants them to be. Joshua reminded the two and half tribes of how they should help the others to become what God wants them. In the church today we are to work for the mutual edification of the brethren.
Have you entered into your rest? Have you received your inheritance? Are you experiencing your victory in some areas of your life? It is now your responsibility to extend a helping hand to your brethren around. Don’t see yourself like you are better than everyone. If you are experiencing victory extend a helping hand to a struggling weak brother. They purpose is for our corporate victory so that the weakest amongst us will be as strong as David. Reuben, Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh helped the other tribes to get their inheritance (22:8-9). Let’s labour for the cooperate edification of one another.
PRAYER: O LORD help me to be committed to help the brethren to enter into their rest and inheritance in Jesus name.
