A COSTLY BARGAIN

Bride of Christ Devotional, 17th October, 2023

2 Samuel 1:14-15 – And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD’S anointed? And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. [KJV]

THE YEARNING for recognition and gaining favour with people is increasing around the world. This is so because of the economic constrains so many people are facing. Our text today was David’s response to an Amalekite who thought that by saying he killed Saul will win the favour of David. Saul committed suicide in 1 Samuel 31 but this young man came and framed a story in his favour. This costed him his life as we see in the text. His deceptive presentation to win David’s favour costed him his life. A costly bargain indeed.

So many people today both in the spiritual and secular sphere has used deception in order to gain favour and also to destroy the reputation of others. They have used subtle means to bring others down so that they can enjoy favour from the powers that be. This is a bad practice that can ruin your life and soul. Remember the Bible says though hand join in hand the unrighteous shall not go unpunished. The consequence for his lying was that it costed him his life.

You can rise from the bottom to the top by competence, character and consistency in righteousness. You don’t have to pull others down and speak evil of them for you to rise. The air space is very big there is no traffic there. When you rise you don’t have to bring others down for you to stay there. Bringing others down by lying and falsehood is a costly bargain that can ruin your life. Beware!

PRAYER: O LORD help me to be sincere with my words and seek to develop others in Jesus name.
