Numbers 16:46 So Moses said to Aaron, “Take a censer and put fire in it from the altar, put incense on it, and take it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from the LORD. The plague has begun.” (NKJV)
_______________
MITIGATION is to act in such a way as to cause an effect to seem less serious. Israel had just rebelled against God and His ordained leaders. Two hundred and fifty men together with there valleys has just been swallowed up by the earth because of that rebellion. Immediately after that event the people murmured again against Moses and Aaron and God’s decision was to consume the congregation in one moment. When this message came to Moses he mitigated the situation by urging Aaron urgently to make atonement for the sin of the people.
The discernment of Moses as a leader by priesthood caused the plague that started and destroyed some people to be stopped. The intervention of priesthood through the burning of incense appeased the anger of the Lord. The Bible says that our prayers ascends to God as incense. When we realize that things are going haywire and out of alignment with what God originally planned for us, sincere prayers are needed to mitigate the situation.
Moses’ discernment that priesthood could rescue the situation brought solution. As leaders we must pray for wisdom and discernment to know what to do in the midst of chaos and dilemma. When Aaron stood up with his censer lit from the altar and ran quickly to the congregation and make atonement the plague stopped. Your intercession is needed and can be a means of calming the storm that others are going through now.
PRAYER: O LORD help me to know what to do in times of chaos and as I bring priesthood let the challenges around me be abated in Jesus name.
